07.03.2023 – Cuba will once again experience its great running festival on 19t of November. The weekend of 18th and 19th of November, Havana will once again shine to celebrate one of the most important days of Cuban sport. Year after year, the Marabana – Havana Marathon brings together thousands of runners from all over the island and numerous participants from other countries, making it an international event. Moreover, this mythical race through the Cuban capital represents the most important sports day on the Caribbean island, the same day on which the Day of Physical Culture and Sport in Cuba is also celebrated.
Marabana, the most important sports day on the island
The Havana Marathon, Marabana 42k will represent a turning point in the history of this emblematic race. A 37th edition that will be very special, as both national and international athletes will be able to meet again with this race, which in 2022 was held again in person, the most important sports festival in the Caribbean country.
The circuit: a major tourist attraction
The race runs through the most iconic places in the Cuban capital, those that captivate its visitors. The marathon runs two laps of a route starting and finishing in the Parque Central, next to the Capitolio. The route runs through the following streets and avenues: Paseo del Prado, Refugio, Zulueta, De las Misiones Avenue, Malecón, Calzada, 12th Street, 23rd Street, 26th Avenue, Boyeros, Santa Catalina, Primelles, Vía Blanca, Boyeros, Salvador Allende, Reina and Paseo del Prado.
But it is the 8-kilometre circuit along the seafront on the cinematic Malecón that really appeals to the participants. The sound of the waves and the ambient music of the Cuban people are the perfect travelling companions for treasuring memories that will remain in the minds of the participants for life. Because the Malecón sums up the history and daily life of Havana, the best expression of the life of those who live in and fill the Cuban capital with colour.
Four distances to choose from: Marabana 42k, Marabana 21k, Marabana 10k and Marabana 5k
La Marabana wants to involve everyone in its great sporting festival. For this reason, the event consists of four different distances. Through the event’s website, international participants can choose which of the distances they want to run: the full marathon through the centre of Havana, a half-marathon, a 10km race and a 5K race adapted from the 10K race.
AIMS certificate and approved marks
The Marabana is certified as a member of AIMS (World Association of Marathons and Long Distance Running). The Havana Marathon course, which starts and finishes in front of the monumental Capitolio, is the only Cuban course officially certified as an international race registered with the AIMS. This homologation allows participants to establish official marks.
