Registrations open for the Marabana – Havana Marathon 2024

  • The 38th edition of the great Cuban sporting event will be held on Sunday 17 November.

Cuba will once again experience its great running festival on 17th of November. On the weekend of 16 and 17 November, the 38th Marabana – Havana Marathon returns, a day on which Havana will once again shine to celebrate one of the most important days of Cuban sport. Year after year, the Cuban marathon brings together runners from all over the island and many participants from other countries, making it an international event.

 

Moreover, this legendary race through the Cuban capital is the most important sports day on the Caribbean island, on the day on which the Day of Physical Culture and Sport is also celebrated. This year’s edition also marks Havana’s 505th anniversary on 16th of November, and the Marabana is included in the programme of cultural and sporting events to celebrate this anniversary which will take place in the city from 2 to 17 November under the slogan “Havana lives in me”.

The race bibs will once again be handed out at the Tryp Melia Habana Libre Hotel from 13th to 16th of November from 9h to 20h, and from 15th to 16th of November the race bib collection service will be open 24 hours a day. Likewise, the official presentation of the Marabana – Havana Marathon will take place on Friday 15th of November at 17h at the same location.

Marabana, the most important sports day on the island
Marabana – La Maratón de La Habana returns one more year to continue adding editions to the history of this emblematic race. A 38th edition that will be very special, as both national and international athletes will be able to meet again for the third consecutive year with this event, which in 2022 was held again in person, and which is the most important sports festival in the Caribbean country.

 

Its course: a great tourist attraction
The race runs through the most iconic places in the Cuban capital, those that captivate its visitors. The marathon takes place over two laps of a course, starting and finishing at the Ramón Font Multipurpose and Sports Centre. The route runs through the following streets and avenues: Paseo del Prado, Refugio, Zulueta, De las Misiones Avenue, Malecón, Calzada, 12th Street, 23rd Street, 26th Avenue, Boyeros, Santa Catalina, Primelles, Vía Blanca, Boyeros, Salvador Allende, Reina and Paseo del Prado.

 

But what really attracts the participants is its 8 kilometre along the seafront, on the cinematic Malecón. The sound of the waves and the ambient music of the Cuban people are the perfect travelling companions for treasuring memories that will remain in the minds of the participants for life. Because the Malecón sums up the history and daily life of Havana, the best expression of the life of those who live in and fill the Cuban capital with colour.

 

Four distances to choose from: Marabana Marathon, Marabana Half-Marathon, Marabana 10 KM and Marabana 5 KM

Moreover, the Marabana – Maratón de La Habana wants to involve everyone in its great celebration of Cuban sport. For this reason, the event consists of four different distances. Through the event’s website, international participants can choose which of the distances they want to run: the full marathon through the centre of Havana, a half marathon, a 10km run and a 5km run.

AIMS certificate and approved marks
The Marabana – Maratón de La Habana is certified as a member of the AIMS (World Association of Marathons and Long Distance Races). The Havana Marathon course, which starts and finishes in front of the monumental Capitol, is the only Cuban course officially certified as an international race registered with the AIMS. This homologation allows participants to establish official marks.
