This coming Saturday, 21 September, the 64th anniversary of the founding of the Committees for the Defence of the Revolution (CDR) will once again be celebrated.
This Saturday 21 September sees the return of the Race-Walk for Peace from the neighbourhood in commemoration of the founding of the Committees for the Defence of the Revolution (CDR), the perfect pre-race to prepare for any of the four distances (5K, 10K, 21K and 42K) of the Marabana – Havana Marathon 2024 on 17 November.
This event, organised by the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder) and the CDR, Cuba’s largest social organisation, promises to be an unforgettable celebration. According to a statement from the National Commission of Marabana Maracuba Races and Walks (CNCCMM), registration in Havana will take place from 7:00 a.m. on Saturday 21 September in the 13 de Marzo Park, next to the iconic Museum of the Revolution.
From the historic north balcony of this museum, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz made the call for the constitution of the CDR, which this September 28 celebrates 64 years of existence. This event not only celebrates history and unity, but also promotes peace and well-being in the community.
The race will start at 9:00 a.m., with the start and finish line located in front of the famous Museum of the Revolution, the former Presidential Palace. The route will include Refugio Street, Misiones and Estudiantes Avenues, San Lázaro, Galiano, Neptuno, Prado, Cárcel and Zulueta, finally returning to Refugio Street. Runners will be able to participate with the bibs handed out in previous events such as the Marabana 2023, Inder Anniversary, For Mandela and Fidel and Olympic Ideal races. New participants will receive bibs at the time of registration.
