The Cuban marathon surpasses the 500 foreign runners when more than four months are missing for its celebration, next November. About 50 different nationalities will be present in the most important day for Cuban sports.
Next November 10, the capital city of Cuba will live a new edition of its marathon, with a large representation of foreign participants. So much so, that they have more than 500 foreign participants, coming from 48 different nationalities; Australia, India, Island, Switzerland, Norway, Spain, Russia, UK, Brazil or the United States are just some of the nationalities represented.
In this case, the runner nº 500 has been the American K. Mac Murdie, who will participate in the 10K race. This way, the same day of the Marathon, it will be also celebrated a half marathon and a 10k and 5k race.
The inscriptions for the next editions are experiencing a very high growth compared to other editions. So much so, that the percentage of foreign participants registered so far in any of the 4 races of Marabana (Marathon, Half Marathon, 10km and 5 km), has experienced an increase of 66% on the same dates of 2018. We are talking about 510 participants compared to 307 in 2018.
Marabana has represented for the island an opportunity to publicize its cultural heritage and to promote sports among the local population. Thus, the Cuban marathon also celebrates the great meeting of Cuba Sport; thousands of persons fill the streets of La Habana to celebrate the Day of Physical Culture and Sports in Cuba. Moreover, this time it will coincide with the week of festivities for the 500th anniversary of the Villa San Cristóbal Foundation of Havana.
Next November 9 the presentation of Marabana will take place. From 5 pm, the Hotel Parque Central will gather national and foreign press, sponsors of the race and special guests to announce all the novelties of the race.
