There are countless reasons to travel to Cuba to get to know Havana. But the Marabana – Havana Marathon is the best option to get to know the Cuban capital in the year of its 505th anniversary. The 38th edition of this international marathon will be held on 17 November, coinciding as always with the celebration of the Cuban Day of Physical Culture and Sport, and these are the 3 essential reasons not to miss this great sporting event:
1. A marathon with warm temperatures in the middle of the European and North American winter.
The best thing about travelling to Cuba in November is that the dry season begins, when temperatures are milder, warmer but without excesses. This is the time when the tropical storms and the hot and humid weather come to an end, coinciding with winter in Europe and North America. Therefore, travelling to Havana on 17th of November to take part in the Marabana is the perfect getaway to take part in an international marathon.
2. Enjoy running through the historic centre of Havana in up to 4 different distances.
The Marabana is a race open to everyone. Therefore, it has up to four distances available to participate: 42K (marathon distance), 21K (half-marathon distance), 10K and 5K. All of them run through an urban and monumental route through Old Havana, rich in history and culture of the island, and also all of them pass through the famous Malecón.
Certified by AIMS (World Association of Marathons and Long Distance Races), the Havana Marathon course, which starts and finishes in front of the Capitol, is the only Cuban circuit officially certified as an international race registered with AIMS. This certification allows participants to establish official marks, which is why the Cuban marathon stands out for its high number of runners from other countries, with more than 60 nationalities in 2019.
3. In 2024, Adidas will once again dress the participants of the Marabana.
As it did in 2019, the renowned sports brand, which has recently made a strong commitment to running, will once again provide the clothing for the participants of the Marabana – Havana Marathon 2024. A new sign of Adidas’ decision to resume its links with the Cuban Sports System and a nice souvenir for the runners of the distances of this great international athletics event on the Isla Bonita.
